As an Interior Designer, it always shocks me how expensive dressing windows can be. Purchasing the fixtures and fittings alone can be costly, and that is before we even begin thinking about any blinds and curtains.

Luckily, there are a few tricks to keep the cost of dressing your windows down and one of the best ones is finding cheaper alternatives that look just as good as their high-end counterparts.

IKEA is one of my favourite places to find good quality curtains that won’t break the bank. They have a great range of curtains with something for every taste, and many look much more expensive than they actually are.

In this blog post, I will delve into the best IKEA curtains and why you will love them as much as I do. So whether you are revamping your living room, giving your bedroom an upgrade or simply looking for budget-friendly window dressing, this post has everything you need to get started.

The Best Of The Best IKEA Curtains

Hilja is one of IKEA’s most popular curtains, and it isn’t hard to see why. The airy, lightweight fabric allows natural light to filter through, and the crisp white colour brightens a room to create a fresh, inviting atmosphere.

IKEA’s Hilija curtains are understated yet elegant, and when hung from a curtain track, they look undeniably a lot more expensive than they are.

These recycled polyester curtains are an ideal choice to create privacy and reduce light levels and glare in a living room and would also look great in a bedroom as part of a layered window dressing solution.

The Best New IKEA Curtains

The yellowy-beige hue and textured fabric make the new IKEA Rosenmandel curtains one of my favourites this season.

The curtain’s thick room-darkening fabric, along with its sandy colour, would add a feeling of warmth and comfort to any space. The curtain also comes in an attractive dark green, ideal for a more daring aesthetic.

The Best Cheap IKEA Curtains

IKEA’s Silverlönn sheer curtains are one of the best IKEA curtains, and not just because they are insanely good value.

These cotton curtains have a gorgeous lightweight feel that would sway beautifully on a breezy day. The slightly sheer material provides lots of privacy without compromising on natural light.

The Silverlönn curtains come in multiple colours, but the light green is by far my favourite. The soft hue is an ideal shade for adding a little interest to a space without dominating it and is a perfect choice for anyone looking to capture a modern Scandinavian feel in their home.

42 Best Curtains For A Bedroom: A Complete Guide

The Best IKEA White Curtains

There are so many reasons to love IKEA’s Gunnlaug curtains. Firstly, their beautiful textured appearance makes them look and feel luxurious and much more expensive than their price tag.

Not only do they look great and hang beautifully, but they are also specifically designed to absorb sound to help soften ambient noise. Who knew curtains could be so versatile and valuable?

The understated appearance of IKEA’s Merete curtains makes them a winner for a modest yet elegant aesthetic. Not only are they room darkening making them an ideal choice for a bedroom, but they also have an eyelet heading, meaning they are super easy to pull shut and do not require any other fittings such as curtain rings and clips.

The Best IKEA Sheer Curtains

In my opinion, IKEA’s Gjertrud curtains are their best sheer curtains, and when you see the detailing of the fabric, you’ll understand why. The soft line detailing enhances the curtain’s modern look making it an ideal choice for a contemporary and fresh interior.

Sheer curtains are an ideal way to maintain a sense of privacy whilst softening and filtering natural light. They are often a popular choice for modern interior design and look great when combined with a thicker curtain to create a more tactile, layered look that beautifully frames a window.

Did you know that beige is all the rage right now? I was so happy to see a beige sheer curtain in IKEA’s new range as it is a welcome break from the classic white that we so often see.

If you are not quite back into the beige fan club, don’t worry, as it also comes in white.

The Best Luxury IKEA Curtains

If you are looking for opulence, sophistication, and a hint of glam, then look no further, as IKEA’s Sanela curtains are the best IKEA curtains for you. Not only are they incredibly thick, but they are also velvet, meaning they have a beautiful luxurious appearance and feel.

These curtains come in a variety of lovely colours, but my favourite is the rich, dark blue. The deep hue combined with the velvet material, makes this drape the perfect window dressing to make a bold statement in a space.

The Best IKEA Curtains For A Bedroom

The Majgull curtains have a soft, silky appearance that makes them feel luxurious without being too showy. The soft light grey colour is a great hue that will look amazing in any room all year round, but the curtain’s thick room-darkening material makes it an ideal choice for bedrooms.

Not only will it keep pesky sunrises from waking you before your alarm, but the thick material also helps keep draughts at bay, perfect for those cold winter mornings.

Black-out curtains are a must-have for a restful, undisturbed night’s sleep. That is why the Birtna block-out curtains are a winner for anyone looking for a stylish room during the day and a relaxing haven at night.

The eyelet heading and the suede appearance of the material give these curtains a plush, contemporary appearance.

Birtna comes in multiple colours, but the soft, dreamy tone of the turquoise is by far my favourite and would be a perfect choice for relaxed bedroom decor.

The Best IKEA Curtains For A Living Room

When decorating a living room, I love to use curtains that aren’t too thick and heavy. This helps give the room a softer, more relaxed appearance whilst still beautifully framing the windows.

The IKEA Hannalill curtain is one of these curtains that looks lovely in a living room environment due to its lightweight cotton material. The light filtering curtains help reduce light levels, blocking glares that may hit any screens whilst also providing privacy.

It isn’t hard to see why IKEA’s Moalina curtains have made it onto this list of best IKEA curtains. The simple, lightweight fabric hangs beautifully.

It is slightly thicker than the Hannalill curtain, making it an ideal choice for a more exposed living room requiring more privacy or light filtration.

IKEA Curtain Panels

Do you know what a curtain panel is? Nope, I didn’t either until I discovered them a few years ago after exploring IKEA. These nifty fabric panels are a great alternative way to dress your windows and are super effective at creating a streamlined, modern aesthetic.

IKEA’s Fönsterviva is one of my favourite panels because I love the tones and textures of the material. To create a softer look and to have more control of light levels within your space, try combining these panels with curtains for a dynamic layered window dressing.
